Unit Overview

The Inpatient Rehabilitation unit at Duke Regional Hospital features a specialized 30-bed nursing floor focused on rehabilitation nursing, particularly for neurology patients.

General Description of this Role

You will independently plan and deliver professional nursing care for patients, adhering to physician directives and established protocols. Your nursing services will be provided to patients and their families, aligned with the scope defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Role
  • Develop, implement, and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process in accordance with physician orders and established guidelines under the supervision of the team leader or charge nurse.
  • Delegate responsibilities and oversee the activities of both licensed and unlicensed care providers.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals in delivering patient care and maintaining the care environment, including equipment and resources.
  • Organize work effectively and identify available resources to ensure timely completion of care tasks.
  • Engage in professional development by maintaining required competencies, recognizing learning needs, and pursuing educational opportunities.
  • Contribute to the growth of fellow staff and learners, and participate in identifying clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is required.
  • Registered Nurses without a BSN must enroll in an appropriate program within two years of hire and complete it within five years.
  • Registered nurses hired under specific conditions are encouraged to pursue a BSN within the designated timeframe.
Experience
  • New Graduate Registered Nurses are welcome; no prior RN experience is necessary.
  • One year of RN experience is required for Level II Registered Nurses.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
  • Current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina is mandatory.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of the roles of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and nursing care assistants.
  • Proficient in applying the nursing process effectively.
  • Familiarity with professional nursing theory, practice, and procedures.
  • Ability to assess the nursing needs of both acute and chronic patients and their families.
  • Capacity to independently seek resources and collaborate effectively.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Ability to educate patients and families in line with the nursing care plan.
  • Competent in using sensory and cognitive skills to prioritize information and treatment.
  • Proficient in documenting care activities and patient assessments.
  • Ability to navigate clinical systems and provide care efficiently.
  • Physical stamina to endure prolonged standing and walking.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety protocols.
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements is essential.
