KIPP Memphis Public Schools is a leading educational institution dedicated to providing high-quality education to students from underserved communities. We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering effective and rigorous instruction to students with special needs, promoting a college-preparatory culture, and collaborating with the child study team to develop individualized educational programs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to working with educationally underserved students and a thorough knowledge of special education principles and practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized educational programs (IEPs) for students with special needs
  • Provide research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student's IEP
  • Assess student progress and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques
  • Collaborate with the child study team to develop and implement IEPs
  • Coordinate the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP
  • Plan a program of study and unit/weekly/daily lessons that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
  • Implement the region's philosophy of education, the KIPP Memphis curriculum, and instructional goals and objectives
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations

Requirements:

  • Active Tennessee state licensure and certification - endorsement matching subject area & grade band
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of special education and specialty area
  • Knowledge and skills in working with children with behavior and emotional disabilities
  • Commitment to working with educationally underserved students
  • Commitment to the design and development of the school
  • Bachelor's degree
