We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a Medical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results, while providing exceptional patient care and service.
Key Responsibilities- Perform and evaluate laboratory tests, selecting and performing additional procedures as needed.
- Monitor workflow and make adjustments to complete work in a timely manner.
- Evaluate results for clinical significance, validity, and appropriateness, and follow prescribed policy in reporting and notification of test results.
- Perform and document calibration, maintenance, and repair of instruments and equipment.
- Recognize indicators of test and/or instrument malfunction, evaluate, and implement appropriate corrections.
- Perform, document, and review quality control and quality assurance for improvement according to established protocol.
- Assemble and prepare specimens for testing, and collect specimens from patients according to established protocol.
- Provide general direction, training, competency review, and technical assistance to medical laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, and support staff.
- Assist in the development of education and training protocols, and instruct students, residents, and new team members as assigned.
- Assist in improving the quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures, policies, and processes, and ensure compliance with all accrediting agency standards.
- Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC), or Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
- Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, or related field.
- No experience required.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include alternate site assignment.
Frequently lifts up to 10 lbs. Occasionally required to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for the majority of the workday. May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, radioactive, and/or infectious agents. Will be exposed to human blood and body fluids. Must wear appropriate lab coat, gloves, gowns, and eye and face protection as needed.
