Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Laboratory Director will oversee the operation and delivery of services and technical processes within the laboratory. This includes planning, directing, and implementing process improvement activities to ensure efficient and effective laboratory results.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive laboratory quality program to ensure compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and licensing agency requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Information Services Department to optimize the use of laboratory information systems.
  • Provide excellent customer service through effective communication with laboratory, hospital, clinic, and healthcare system administration, physicians, and staff.

Financial Management

  • Develop, recommend, and monitor capital and operating budgets to ensure productivity targets are met.
  • Assume overall responsibility for the environment of care and ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and standardizing protocols.

Human Resources

  • Perform human resources responsibilities for staff, including interviewing, selection, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, and corrective actions.

Education and Experience

  • Medical Technologist (MT) certification or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification or Cytotechnologist (CT) certification.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Health Care Administration, or related field.
  • Typically requires 7 years of experience in a hospital or laboratory setting and 3 years of management experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven ability to assure compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and licensing agency requirements.
  • Current knowledge of medical and technical advancements to plan for future growth and development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of leadership and staff.
