Job Title: Patient Care Assistant/Unit Coordinator

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Assistant/Unit Coordinator to join our team at UofL Health - Mary & Elizabeth Hospital.

About Us

UofL Health - Mary & Elizabeth Hospital is a 298-bed, full-service hospital that has served generations of patients in south Louisville. Our hospital offers a wide range of services, including vascular, orthopedic, cardiac, neurological, surgical, rehabilitative, and 24/7 emergency services.

Responsibilities
  • Transcribe and compute physician orders, department orders, and messages accurately.
  • Assemble patient medical records and maintain proper order of records within the chart.
  • Set up admission charts and disassemble discharged and transferred charts, checking for completeness.
  • Handle desk communications properly and promptly, including responding immediately to intercom, pages, and routing of messages to the appropriate person.
  • Replace forms as necessary in patient medical records.
  • Route requests for patient information to the nurse promptly and accurately.
  • Communicate physician orders to the responsible nurse.
  • Collect required unit data.
  • Measure and document intake and output, heights and weights, and vital signs.
  • Apply, monitor, and document restraint usage.
  • Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens.
  • Perform and document point-of-care testing.
  • Perform and document patient mobility and exercise, and comfort, rest, and sleep care needs.
  • Perform and document patient hygiene, grooming, and dressing, skin and nail care, dietary, and toileting and elimination needs.
Other Functions
  • Organize equipment and supplies.
  • Complete bedmaking and cleaning assignments on the unit.
  • Perform and document perineal care, and apply unsterile hot/cold packs/compresses, bandages, and elastic stockings.
  • Safely and correctly operate equipment (i.e. beds, wheelchairs, stretchers, hypo/hyperthermia unit, mechanical lifts, bed scales).
  • Present a pleasant, courteous, effective manner with telephone conversations and interactions with others.
  • Order stock; maintain and enter charged items at the end of the shift according to procedure.
  • Orient new personnel in desk orientation.
  • Assist with admitting, physical examination, transferring, and discharging patients.
  • Transport patients, lab work, specimens, and blood.
  • Adhere to Universal precaution, infection control, OSHA, and other regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Maintain safe work practices and follow facility safety procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
  • Comply with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times.
