- Act as the Primary Care Manager, delivering comprehensive outpatient services to male and female patients across all age groups, from infants to seniors, who present with complex and interrelated acute and chronic health issues.
- Prescribe medications as necessary.
- Assess conditions related to diseases, illnesses, disorders, or injuries; initiate patient treatment; and consult with specialists as needed.
- Coordinate consultations with Physicians when required.
- Conduct outpatient surgical procedures.
Requirements for Employment
- Appointment may require a suitability or fitness determination based on a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is mandatory.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements due to interactions with minors on a recurring basis.
- This role is designated for testing and is subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Candidates will need to consent to participate in random drug urinalysis testing.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Immunization screening is necessary. Hepatitis B immunization is mandatory for all positions involving direct patient contact. Proof of other immunizations may be required based on the specific role.
- Must obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certifications (e.g., ALS) do not replace BLS.
- Candidates must meet credentialing requirements and secure and maintain relevant clinical privileges.
- This position may involve shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).

Experience encompasses both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer roles through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, will be credited. Resumes must clearly outline relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, transcripts will be required as part of the application.
Basic Qualifications for Healthcare Provider Assistant:
Education: Completion of a physician assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at an institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was awarded.
Certification: Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain certification status, including fulfilling all Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification requirements.
Licensure: Candidates must hold a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a U.S. State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
Exemption: Current federal employees in the 0603 occupational series continuously employed since September 27, 2017, or earlier are exempt from the above licensing requirements. Documentation will be required to validate this status.
In addition to the basic qualifications, candidates must also meet the following experience requirements:
Experience: A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the GS-11 or higher grade.
Some federal positions allow for the substitution of education for required experience; however, for this role, experience alone is necessary—no educational substitution is permitted.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If utilizing education from foreign institutions to meet qualification requirements, candidates must provide evidence that their educational credentials have been evaluated by a recognized organization specializing in the interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to U.S. accredited education.
