Position Overview
Under the supervision of a Senior Transportation Engineer, the incumbent will engage in a variety of landscape architecture and transportation-related responsibilities, ensuring that all tasks align with the project's Contract Plans, Special Provisions, Standard Plans, and Specifications.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this position, candidates may need to achieve a satisfactory score on the Landscape Associate examination. Individuals without current eligibility, including those seeking transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotion, must be listed on the state examination list to be considered for employment.

Work Environment
This position is based in a climate-controlled office environment, but the incumbent will be required to travel to various project sites, which may expose them to noise, odors, dust, and extreme weather conditions. The role may involve flexible hours, night work, and geographic transfers as necessary. A valid driver's license is preferred, and travel may be required for meetings, training, and conferences.
Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver's license is mandatory when operating a state-owned or leased vehicle.
- A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required; failure to submit this document will result in disqualification from the hiring process.
The SOQ should detail how the applicant's education and experience meet the evaluation criteria, showcasing their ability to communicate effectively in writing. It must not exceed two pages and should address the following criteria:
- Experience in written, verbal, and interpersonal communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to apply knowledge of construction engineering and contract compliance, particularly in relation to landscape architecture and irrigation projects.
- Capability to identify issues and utilize logical analysis to provide sound engineering recommendations, including knowledge of calculations relevant to highway construction and planting.
- Experience in collaborating productively with contractors and enforcing contract stipulations.
- Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships and function effectively as a team member.
- Status in the California Landscape Architect licensing process, including tests taken and dates passed.
Verification of minimum qualifications will occur prior to the interview or appointment. Candidates meeting qualifications through education must provide unofficial transcripts or diplomas for verification.
