Job Title: Manager of Health Information Management

About the Role:

The Manager of Health Information Management at North Central Health Care is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the HIM department. This includes ensuring the completeness and accuracy of medical records, release of information, scanning, coding, and all processes related to maintaining and auditing the medical record.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to the HIM department and ensure quality standards of medical record content are upheld.
  • Organize the health information function to achieve stated objectives and make changes or recommendations as appropriate.
  • Implement health record processing systems to provide accurate and timely processing of records and generation of reports.
  • Ensure accreditation and regulatory requirements are met and compliant.
  • Perform HR-related tasks, including hiring, position justifications, performance evaluations, and disciplinary guidance.
  • Determine staffing needs and ensure personnel functions are carried out.
  • Provide ongoing education and training for staff to maintain and improve skills.
  • Implement and support quality improvement processes within the department and throughout the organization.
  • Maintain knowledge of HIPAA and ensure compliance and enforcement of policies and procedures.
  • Lead the management and auditing of medical records.
  • Monitor written documentation and share information with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Provide training on medical record content, completion, confidentiality, documentation standards, and error correction procedures.
  • Ensure the quality of medical records by implementing policies and procedures to verify completeness, accuracy, and proper entry.
  • Chapter Owner of 'Record of Care' for Joint Commission and conduct required quality reporting.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal, state, and accrediting agency laws and standards.
  • Develop department budget and ensure the department operates within budgetary limitations.
  • Research and prepare policies and procedures related to HIM.
  • Serve as 'Custodian of Medical Records' to ensure security of charts and PHI.
  • Respond to court-ordered Subpoenas.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or Technology, Health Care Administration, or equivalent course of study earned from an accredited four-year college or university academic program or 1-3 years of experience in HIM, or certification in HIM functions such as an RHIT, or RHIA, CPHIMS.
  • Previous experience in electronic health record environment.
  • Possess at least 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with team members.
  • Strong computer aptitude including knowledge of electronic health records and Microsoft Office products.
  • Maintains regular and predictable on-site attendance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • One year of experience in a health care setting.
  • Health Information Management for 3-5 years.
  • Intermediate knowledge of medical terminology and clinical workflows.

  • Starting pay range $64,000 - $72,000 annually.
