POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Healthcare Assistant II is a non-licensed professional with foundational training who undertakes essential administrative and clerical duties in the front office, as well as routine medical tasks in the back office under the direct supervision of a licensed physician or designated mid-level providers within a clinical environment. Responsibilities include assisting medical providers and performing tasks within the medical assistant's scope of practice, such as: preparing patients for examinations, gathering and documenting patient information including medications, height, weight, vital signs, pain and fatigue assessments, and fall risk evaluations. The Healthcare Assistant will often be required to apply and remove dressings, administer injections, conduct lab draws, and perform similar procedures. Additionally, they will provide intramuscular, subcutaneous, and inhaled medications. Those working at the Cancer Center will cater to the specific needs of that facility.

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Requirements:
- Completion of an accredited medical assistant program OR an Associate's degree or higher in a clinical healthcare discipline (such as LVN, RN, Medical Technologist) along with two years of back office medical experience.
- At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Prior experience in phlebotomy.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in front office medical operations, including reception, registration, scheduling, billing, and medical record management.

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:
Current CPR certification required.

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:
Proficiency in blood draws and injection administration is essential. The candidate must demonstrate professional interaction and effective communication with physicians, staff, patients, and the public. A fundamental understanding of medical/technical procedures, knowledge of point-of-care laboratory equipment, and proficiency in clerical and computer skills for various medical office support functions are required. Sensitivity towards patients and their families while maintaining strict confidentiality is crucial. The ability to follow instructions, work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment, along with strong analytical and grammatical skills for effective verbal and written communication, is necessary. Organizational and multitasking abilities are vital.
