The Policy Analyst is responsible for managing, synchronizing, and producing the Index of U.S. Military Strength and conservative Defense Budget, two of The Heritage Foundation's signature products. This position involves developing and managing master production schedules, coordinating content delivery from internal and external authors, creating innovative graphics, and disseminating information through various channels to maximize the impact of the Index and Budget.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and lead all aspects of the Index of U.S. Military Strength and conservative Defense Budget development.
- Coordinate with multiple internal and external authors to deliver new and updated content for the Index and Budget.
- Provide high-quality control and review of all content submitted for the Index and Budget to ensure consistently high research standards and timely production.
- Coordinate Index and Budget authors and reviewers, preparing necessary contracts and documents to ensure accountability of funds and delivery of required services.
- Conduct research and write high-quality papers, reports, book chapters, and commentary on military cybersecurity, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Defense Industrial Base.
- Lead the planning and conduct of wargames and simulations as the Davis Institute's lead.
- Organize and participate in internal and external events, meetings, and conferences.
- Assist in preparing Congressional testimonies.
- Master's Degree in a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in public policy.
- Excellent writing and speaking skills for research and commentary, with knowledge of digital editing preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Understanding and support of The Heritage Foundation's mission and vision for America, and the department's goals and objectives.
- Promotion of policies consistent with Heritage's priorities, speaking with one voice.
- Exceptional organizational, planning, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Practical experience in a relevant field and ability to apply conservative principles to policy research on current topics.
The Heritage Foundation offers a highly competitive benefits package, including best-in-class health care, vision, and dental insurance, employer-sponsored retirement funding, 'take what you need' PTO and sick leave, 14 weeks of paid leave for new moms and 6 weeks of paid leave for new dads, among other programs.
The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $84,500 annually, depending on experience, education, and other qualifications, as well as internal and external market pay for comparable jobs and level of hire based on qualifications.
