Position Overview

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director of Nursing in managing daily nursing operations in compliance with facility regulations.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of nursing policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that nursing reference materials are up-to-date and accessible.
  • Monitor compliance with nursing service procedures among staff.
  • Provide written and verbal reports to the Director regarding nursing department operations.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident care functions to ensure a holistic approach to resident care.
  • Ensure nursing staff adhere to their job descriptions and responsibilities.
  • Participate in the creation and implementation of quality assurance initiatives for the nursing department.
  • Engage in facility surveys conducted by regulatory agencies as required.
  • Review and update residents' discharge plans as necessary.
  • Assist in planning nursing services for residents' discharge needs.
  • Facilitate meetings with nursing and support staff to plan departmental services and activities.
  • Manage the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for residents.
  • Complete necessary incident reports and documentation.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including medical forms and charting.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels of LPNs and RNs for quality care delivery.
  • Oversee the availability of CNAs to meet residents' daily nursing needs.
  • Develop work assignments and assist in task completion.
  • Prepare rooms for new admissions and greet residents upon arrival.
  • Accompany physicians during rounds as needed.
  • Notify attending physicians and family members of any changes in residents' conditions.
  • Provide direct nursing care when required.
  • Participate in continuing education to maintain licensure and stay current in the field.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols regarding personal protective equipment.
  • Monitor staff compliance with safety regulations in equipment use.
  • Recommend necessary equipment and supply needs to the Director.
  • Maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies to meet resident needs.
  • Assist in developing comprehensive assessments of residents' nursing needs.
  • Ensure care personnel are informed of residents' care plans.

Qualifications:

  • A Nursing Degree from an accredited institution or completion of an approved LPN/RN program.
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
  • A current, unencumbered nursing license in the state of practice.
  • Knowledge of nursing practices, medical procedures, and long-term care regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills with a collaborative approach.
  • Proficient in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to make independent decisions in a clinical setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with residents, families, and staff.
  • Capability to plan, organize, and implement nursing programs and policies.
  • Possess patience, tact, and a positive attitude when dealing with residents.
