KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:
A Bachelor’s Degree or current enrollment in such a program is required, along with graduation from an accredited nursing school. A current nursing license in the State of Connecticut is mandatory. Professional certification is highly desirable, and maintaining clinical and managerial competency, including Basic Cardiac Life Support, is essential.
EXPERIENCE:
Candidates must possess a minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience in an acute care environment, demonstrating leadership potential.
COMPETENCIES:
Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written, along with basic computer proficiency, are required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The supervisor participates in and facilitates staff involvement in nursing and organizational policy development and decision-making. They create an environment that promotes high-quality, evidence-based clinical practice. Responsibilities include:
- Evaluating the quality and appropriateness of patient care.
- Engaging in quality improvement initiatives and projects.
- Conducting necessary data collection and audits for quality and regulatory compliance.
- Managing recruitment, interviewing, selection, and retention of patient care staff.
- Overseeing staffing and scheduling to ensure optimal personnel utilization.
The role also emphasizes patient satisfaction through the delivery of high-quality care, regular patient rounds, and effective service recovery techniques. The supervisor follows established protocols for addressing patient complaints and grievances.
To promote staff satisfaction, the supervisor encourages a participative practice environment, valuing and incorporating feedback from staff as appropriate. They are involved in budget planning and monitoring for designated areas, providing variance analysis, and resolving human resource concerns at the departmental level when possible.
The supervisor also engages nursing staff in evaluative research activities and fosters a conducive climate for educational experiences for nursing and other students. They assess patient placement and care needs from a holistic hospital perspective, ensuring efficient patient throughput and promoting positive relationships with the Medical Staff.
The ideal candidate demonstrates flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under pressure. They utilize critical thinking skills and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation, while also pursuing personal and professional growth and development, serving as a role model and mentor.
