Job Summary
The Medical Assistant II plays a vital role in promoting efficient and high-quality clinical practice by providing guidance and support to the team. This position is responsible for managing patient flow and communication, ensuring safe and appropriate patient care within the scope of practice and established policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists with preparing patients for examination and obtains patient medical history by accurately taking vital signs and documents the results in appropriate systems.
- Performs clinical skills as guided by competency validation and implements plans for each clinic to identify and anticipate potential flow problems.
- Coordinates telephone communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams, utilizing follow-up systems to ensure care coordination.
- Responsible for administrative functions to support the clinic, including manual billing, error correction, data entry, and photocopying.
- Provides and documents education to patients and families, utilizing effective teaching skills and scripted teaches.
- Precepts and orients new team members to their function in the clinic.
- May perform routine blood drawing procedures, including venipuncture techniques, and reports any adverse reactions to supervisors or nursing staff.
Additional Responsibilities
- Correctly labels lab specimens and prepares them for analysis by centrifugation, separating specimens from red cells, and other techniques.
- May perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) or other diagnostic tests on patients as directed, processes and files patient charts, and monitors procedure activity under supervision.
- May participate in quality assurance and improvement activities, revising laboratory manuals and procedures in preparation for inspections.

Requirements
- Education: High school diploma/GED and successful graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant (MA) program or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program.
- Special Training, Certification, or Licensure: CPR/BLS required.
- Work Experience: Minimum of six (6) months experience as a Medical Assistant at National Jewish Health or one (1) year recent experience from a healthcare organization or medical office as a Medical Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
