# Project Overview:

Bechtel is currently overseeing a significant project involving the design and construction of a launch platform for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This project aims to support the Space Launch System (SLS), a cutting-edge launch vehicle essential for deep space exploration.

# Position Summary:

As a Welding Engineer, you will spearhead the implementation and management of global construction field welding initiatives while providing expert welding engineering support. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the welding test laboratory, managing the rod room, and ensuring compliance with the weld heat treatment program and laboratory quality standards. Your expertise will be crucial in identifying and rectifying defects and issues before final inspections. This position requires night shift availability.

# Key Responsibilities:

Field Welding Engineer

  • Develop and uphold Bechtel's Field Welding program, potentially serving as the Lead Field Welding Engineer on major projects.
  • Deliver specialized welding engineering support to guarantee adherence to all codes, client specifications, and Bechtel standards.
  • Assist in managing pre- and post-weld heat treatment processes.
  • Oversee the rod room to ensure compliance with Bechtel and client requirements for weld filler materials.

Additional Requirements for Post Weld Heat Treatment Coordinator:

  • Coordinate activities of subcontractors and direct hire personnel involved in pre- and post-weld heat treatment.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of Bechtel's corporate pre- and post-weld heat treatment procedures.
  • Support craft teams in meeting project costs and schedules.

Additional Requirements for NDE Level III:

  • Maintain and implement Bechtel's Nondestructive Examination Qualification and Certification for NDE personnel.
  • Execute Bechtel's Welding Program in accordance with various Global Business Units' requirements.
  • Prepare and qualify NDE procedures, including specialized ones.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to field superintendents and craft personnel.
  • Implement project Environmental, Safety, and Health programs along with quality control measures.
  • Coordinate the review of subcontractor submissions with corporate welding and NDE teams.
  • Ensure that completed welds are accessible for NDE, properly flagged, and free of coatings.
  • Support and maintain the welding test shop as needed.
  • Verify materials, workmanship, and compliance with specifications and codes.
  • Interface with the Lead Welding Engineer for task direction.
  • Oversee inspections and documentation of subcontractor welding and NDE work.
  • Facilitate coordination between Field Welding, Construction Supervision, and NDE subcontractors.
  • Engage in Welder Training and continuous improvement initiatives.

# Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience, or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in Post Weld Heat Treatment on large-scale projects is preferred.
  • Certification as NDE Level III and Level II VT/UT is required.
  • Physical capability to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs, including climbing and lifting.
  • Familiarity with WITS/Arcstryker and TeamWorks database systems is advantageous.
  • Experience in mechanical and piping system construction installation and inspection is preferred.
