Job Title: Hazardous Waste Technician

At Space Exploration Technologies, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Hazardous Waste Technician to join our team. As a key member of our environmental compliance team, you will be responsible for ensuring that our manufacturing, test, and launch operations meet all environmental objectives and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Implement and maintain regulatory requirements related to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Department of Transportation (DOT)
  • Work with engineers and technicians to ensure compliance with environmental regulations
  • Monitor and manage levels of hazardous waste at each department's satellite accumulation area
  • Perform waste determinations of new waste streams
  • Ensure all waste is properly labeled and stored
  • Accurately record and maintain 90-day hazardous waste inventory logs
  • Perform all required hazardous waste and hazardous material storage area inspections
  • Schedule, prepare, and assist in the execution of waste shipments in partnership with the EHS Specialist and waste disposal contractor
  • Consolidate and lab pack waste when appropriate
  • Perform tasks related to spill response and prevention, including clean up and/or the coordination of cleaning activities with a third party
  • Implement the Spill Prevention Countermeasures and Control Plan (SPCC)
  • Order and maintain adequate spill supplies
  • Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits
  • Manage hazardous materials and ensure all hazardous materials are labeled and stored properly
  • Perform regular inspections, including hazardous waste accumulation and storage, universal waste storage, emergency eye wash/shower, and SPCC
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 2+ years of experience implementing and overseeing aspects related to an environmental, health, and safety program
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience in managing hazardous waste storage and satellite accumulation areas
  • Experience with emergency response crews in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and water
  • Experience using Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated strong propensity for hands-on work and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and manage shifting priorities
  • Ability to work in a construction/industrial environment
  • Ability to communicate well with technicians and engineers
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
Additional Requirements:
  • This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Cape Canaveral, Florida area
  • Position occasionally requires the ability to work overtime and weekends when needed
  • Able to work with hazardous materials and environments, while wearing appropriate PPE
  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs unassisted
Compensation and Benefits:

Pay range: Hazardous Waste Technician/Level 1: $22.00 - $27.0/hour, Hazardous Waste Technician/Level 2: $26.00 - $33.00/hour. Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation & will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year.
