Position Overview

As a vital part of our Lessons program, the Music Instruction Specialist at West Music plays a key role in fulfilling our mission of inspiring individuals of all ages and skill levels to embrace music. This role involves delivering tailored music education, primarily through individual lessons, to students ranging from young children to adults. The Specialist will conduct regular sessions, typically on a weekly basis, and will be responsible for assessing student progress through practice sessions and performance opportunities. Lessons may be conducted in various formats, including in-person and virtual settings.

Key Responsibilities

The Music Instruction Specialist will undertake the following essential duties:

  • Assess the unique educational needs of each student and develop customized learning plans that cater to their abilities.
  • Create and organize instructional materials such as syllabi, assignments, and supplementary resources.
  • Demonstrate musical techniques through diverse methods and materials.
  • Prepare students for performances, competitions, or evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and other necessary documentation.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students and their guardians regarding progress and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with store staff to enhance the overall lesson experience.
  • Utilize provided educational management tools to track student learning, assign practice tasks, and monitor attendance.
  • Complete weekly timesheets and fulfill training and compliance requirements using the designated payroll and HR systems.
  • Stay updated on advancements and trends in music education by engaging with current literature, networking with peers, and attending professional events.
Qualifications

Required:
  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience is preferred.
  • Availability to conduct lessons during the designated hours of operation.
  • Strong understanding of music theory and concepts, with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student population.
Preferred:
  • A college degree in a music-related discipline or equivalent teaching experience.
