Job Overview:
The Cafeteria Operator is responsible for delivering appealing and nutritious meals in a clean and welcoming atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare designated breakfast and lunch offerings.
  2. Adhere to established recipes as directed by cafeteria management to maintain quality, portion control, and nutritional standards.
  3. Serve well-presented and portion-controlled menu items in a courteous manner.
  4. Implement specific sanitation and food safety protocols as outlined by the food service child nutrition program.
  5. Participate in a comprehensive sanitation training course provided by HCS food services, with a refresher course every three years.
  6. Complete safety training videos related to kitchen safety protocols.
  7. Fulfill job responsibilities in assigned areas, which may include cashiering, baking, maintaining the dishwashing area, daily record keeping, proper receiving and storage of food and supplies, fruit and vegetable preparation, salad and sandwich preparation, mainline cooking, inventory management, and kitchen cleaning duties.
  8. Follow general instructions and assignments from cafeteria management with minimal supervision.
  9. Physical Effort: Regularly lift or move objects weighing between 30 to 50 pounds. Engage in sweeping, mopping, twisting, turning, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
  10. Working Conditions: Operate in a bustling kitchen environment with varying temperatures, exposure to steam, cooking odors, and cleaning chemicals. Potential hazards include slips, trips, falls, burns, and cuts, as well as exposure to extreme temperature variations when accessing walk-in refrigerators and freezers.
  11. Equipment Operation: Responsible for the safe operation of kitchen equipment such as meat slicers, food processors, and garbage disposals. Ensure thorough cleaning and maintenance of all equipment, including kitchen hoods and dishwashers.
  12. Adhere to the Horry County School District Dress Code, which requires approved uniforms and slip-resistant, closed-toe footwear.
Additional Responsibilities:
Perform other duties as assigned by Cafeteria Management.

Qualifications:
  1. High School diploma.
  2. Previous experience in school food service is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly required to stand, reach with hands and arms, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be capable of frequently lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity for telephone use and data entry.
  • Ability to read a computer screen and printed materials with or without vision aids.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person and on the telephone.
