Job Description

Terracon is seeking a highly skilled Engineering Technician II to join our team in Birmingham, AL. As a key member of our Materials Testing team, you will be responsible for performing field and laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform field and laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials, including soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel.
  • Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, and contractors regarding construction site requirements and testing results.
  • Transport material samples to the laboratory for further testing and analysis.
  • Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observation reports for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager.
  • Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience or equivalent in training and related experience.
  • Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • ACI certification in one or more areas, including Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, Concrete Strength Testing Technician, and Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.

Preferred Certification:

  • NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing in one or more categories, including Asphalt, Concrete, and Soils.
  • NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical in one or more categories, including Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, and Generalist.
  • ICC certification in one or more categories, including Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, and Structural Steel – Bolting and Welding.
  • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
  • American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification in Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
