Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Orthopedic Technician to join our team at The George Washington University Hospital. As an Orthopedic Technician, you will play a critical role in assisting our Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Team in providing exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for orthopedic procedures, ensuring accurate and timely preparation.
  • Don and doff common orthopedic devices and appliances, adhering to strict protocols and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Supply Distribution and Sterile Processing to provide nursing staff and rehab therapy team with supplies and sterile equipment daily.
  • Ensure accurate and efficient application, adjustment, and removal of orthopedic devices, traction, and other similar devices and appliances ordered by physicians or other practitioners.
  • Maintain orthopedic materials, supplies, surgical, and other instruments and equipment, adhering to strict quality control standards.
  • Assemble, disassemble, and calibrate orthopedic equipment and instruments, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
  • Assist nursing staff with basic mobility and transfers, promoting patient comfort and safety.
  • Interact with staff and patients, providing exceptional customer service and support.
Requirements
  • Completion of a Certified Orthopedic Technician certification from NBCOT or ASOP is required.
  • Current certification of Basic Life Support for Health Care Professionals is also required.
Skills and Knowledge
  • General knowledge of standard orthopedic procedures and practices.
  • Working knowledge of orthopedic devices and appliances and proper fitting.
  • Able to mobilize patients either within the bed or chair to properly fit orthopedic devices.
  • Medical terminology pertaining to orthopedics.
  • Fundamental computer skills and keyboard familiarity.
  • Able to speak and write English fluently.
  • Demonstrated communication, organization, and critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Understanding and following oral and written instructions.
  • Basic understanding of Word and Excel.
