Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Superintendent Distribution to join our team at DeKalb County. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and activities of our Watershed Management Construction District.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct assigned staff to ensure the effective management of distribution and collection systems.
  • Develop and oversee employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control.
  • Compile and review timesheets, approve/process employee concerns and problems, and counsel or discipline as appropriate.
  • Assist with or complete employee performance appraisals, direct work, and act as a liaison between employees and management.
  • Organize, prioritize, and assign work, prioritize and schedule work activities to meet objectives, and ensure that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete assigned work.
  • Monitor the status of work in progress, inspect completed work, and consult with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise.
  • Provide progress and activity reports to management and assist with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.
  • Utilize a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to schedule planned maintenance, emergency repairs, and preventive upkeep, and update maintenance program work practices, schedules, and related procedures in the CMMS.
  • Manage a database of incoming and completed work orders and analyze work orders by size, urgency, skill set, location, complexity, and available manpower.
  • Develop and maintain a queue of prioritized field-ready work orders and prepare weekly and bi-weekly schedules based on available labor forecasts.
  • Create detailed work plans that describe scope of work, parts and materials to be used, define number and type of crafts/skills needed, completion timeline, permits and clearances, etc.
  • Research and anticipate additional needs for the work plan, including but not limited to a job hazard assessment, safety plan, as-built drawings, and other information necessary to safely, effectively, and efficiently engage the work plan.
  • Oversee material usage and costs, assist operations teams by issuing work orders in a sequential flow to individual technicians or work teams, and distribute and communicate workflow processes documenting project plan, schedule, and execution.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders on project status, parameters, and problem resolution, and develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures associated with maintenance jobs.
  • Collaborate with system administrators and technical personnel to ensure technology and databases support the department's work and infrastructure management needs.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Eight years of experience in constructions and maintenance of distribution and/or collection systems, with three years of supervisory experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia commercial driver's license.
  • Must obtain a Wastewater Collection System Operator or Water Distribution Operator license within one year of employment.
