Job Summary

Rimkus Consulting is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team in providing failure analysis and forensic consulting services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering and experience in forensic consulting and investigation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform failure analysis for forensic assignments within the field of mechanical engineering expertise.
  • Investigate how and why an incident occurred, including identifying the origin, failure mechanism, and root cause of the incident.
  • Inspect sites/products/equipment/systems; perform electronic data retrieval and analysis of commercial and non-commercial equipment.
  • Document site/product conditions and determine cause and origin of damage.
  • Prepare CAD-based and manual sketches as required.
  • Order and evaluate required laboratory testing and perform analyses.
  • Review and interpret relevant codes, standards, drawings, specifications, technical manuals, peer-reviewed literature, data logs, and other documentation.
  • Conduct various analyses including industrial safety and accidents, equipment and machinery design and failure, product liability, and design and safety.
  • Provide support on fire and explosion investigations involving mechanical systems, products, and equipment.
  • Initiate, develop, and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships.
Requirements
  • B.S. Mechanical Engineering degree or higher.
  • P.E. required.
  • 2-10+ years of experience, including knowledge of products, machine design, HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression systems, and/or other mechanical equipment/systems/processes.
  • Project Management and/or Field Investigation experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong analytical skill.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with clients at all levels.
  • Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications including Microsoft Office Applications and computer-assisted engineering and design software.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical reports or journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to clearly and coherently write scopes-of-work, budget estimates, schedules, reports of findings, proposals, general correspondence, and other technical documents.

This position requires frequent travel and may involve working in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a team setting and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
