POSITION SUMMARY:
The Culinary Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting with daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, serving, and sanitation. This position is essential in ensuring food safety and personal hygiene standards are met. The individual will take on additional responsibilities in the absence of the kitchen manager.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Kitchen Manager, Food Service Manager, and District Staff

SUPERVISES:
No one

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare fruits and vegetables for daily use, including washing, slicing, and other necessary preparations.
  • Assist in the preparation of menu items as directed by the site supervisor.
  • Serve meals during lunch shifts as instructed by the Site Supervisor.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas and ensure proper storage of leftovers.
  • Clean tables and chairs in the dining area.
  • Assist with floor maintenance, including sweeping and mopping.
  • Wrap hot sandwiches as directed by the site supervisor.
  • Process payments for student meals or a la carte items as needed.
  • Transport food items safely between workstations, stove, and refrigeration units.
  • Assist in waste disposal and trash removal.
  • Follow food preparation guidelines and serve all items according to safety and sanitation policies.
  • Arrange food and beverage items for easy access by students and staff.
  • Clean utensils, equipment, and food preparation areas to maintain sanitary conditions.
  • Collect payments for food items from students and staff.
  • Complete necessary training annually as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all sensitive information.

QUALIFICATIONS, CRITICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum of high school diploma.
  • Ability to work effectively with students and adults in a school environment.
  • Adequate visual and auditory skills for a kitchen setting.
  • Ability to adhere to a schedule.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing daily routines.
  • Proficient in data recording using various tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills conducive to a positive work environment.
  • Required medical examination and background checks as per state law.
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to reach above and below waist level.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity for handling kitchen tools and equipment.
  • Ability to navigate stairs and perform bending motions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Typical commercial kitchen setting.
  • Exposure to standard kitchen environmental conditions.
