We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Environmental Health Specialist IV to join our team at the County of San Mateo, CA. As a key member of our Environmental Health Services department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of our community.
Job Summary:The Environmental Health Specialist IV will provide lead direction and technical expertise in performing various environmental health inspection and enforcement activities in the Consumer Protection Programs. This includes leading specialized programs, conducting compliance inspections, and investigating citizen complaints.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead specialized programs within the Food/Pool Programs, including Temporary Food Events, Mobile Food Facilities, Certified Farmers Markets, and food and pool plan checks.
- Conduct compliance inspections of programs and projects within the Consumer Protection Programs as assigned.
- Investigate and resolve citizen complaints, acting as a liaison with community groups, government agencies, and private business.
- Develop, standardize, and update staff inspection techniques.
- Compile data, evaluate procedures, and draft proposed legislation and guidelines.
- Interpret regulations and provide advice relating to area of specialization to city officials, citizen groups, business owners, and others.
- Possession of a current California certificate as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS).
- Three years of journey level experience as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist, including one year of experience in a regulatory agency in the designated option.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel to different sites in San Mateo County to conduct inspections and investigations.
