POSITION OVERVIEW
This role demands a high level of technical expertise and the ability to apply that expertise to laboratory testing, clinical significance, and intricate problem-solving. The individual in this position will act as a key resource within the department, ensuring compliance with all relevant laboratory accreditation and regulatory standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Conducts laboratory tests with precision and timeliness, adhering to established protocols and performance benchmarks. Responsible for the initiation, calibration, and accuracy of testing procedures and equipment. Engages in problem-solving initiatives within the department, utilizing advanced decision-making skills. Demonstrates proficiency in all computer systems utilized in the laboratory and possesses in-depth knowledge of theoretical and clinical relevance of testing. Aids in maintaining compliance with accrediting bodies and regulatory standards. Capable of assuming leadership responsibilities in the absence of departmental management.
2. Identifies and verifies abnormal patient and quality control results, ensuring the integrity of test outcomes. Involved in the detection and documentation of deviations from established procedures. Participates in departmental quality assurance and process improvement initiatives, contributing to the monitoring of productivity and quality indicators.
3. Oversees inventory management and assists in compiling financial data for the department. Actively engages in initiatives aimed at enhancing financial performance, reducing costs, and improving service delivery.
4. Contributes to various departmental and system projects. Plays an active role in training new employees and participates in at least one committee or special project as designated by department leadership. Maintains awareness of the medical and legal implications of professional conduct. Assists in the orientation, training, and competency assessment of new and transferred staff. Completes training modules for newly hired personnel independently.
5. Serves as a departmental resource by providing educational support to both internal and external stakeholders. Exhibits advanced verbal and written communication skills. Attends and contributes to staff meetings. Demonstrates mentoring and coaching abilities, fostering a constructive learning environment.

SCOPE AND COMPLEXITY
Department and LSA/SQL System. Internal Customers: System employees, physicians, nursing staff. External Customers: Nurses, physicians, office personnel, vendors, service representatives, etc. Engaged in interdepartmental communication and collaboration.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently. Capable of using material handling equipment to push or pull up to 75 pounds and lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds. Requires manual dexterity and the ability to distinguish colors. Must follow standard precautions due to potential exposure to blood, body fluids, chemicals, electrical, and biological hazards. Proficient in using personal computers, printers, copiers, telephones, faxes, and department-specific equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in clinical laboratory science/medical technology, OR a BS degree in chemical, physical, or biological science with a certificate of completion from a Categorical equivalent of MLS program, OR a Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, or biological science with certification (MLS or categorical).
- U.S. students may be considered for the equivalent job title in clinical laboratory science under specific conditions.
- Foreign-educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from a recognized agency.
- For certain specialty areas, a Bachelor's Degree with one year of relevant experience is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MT or categorical certification (ASCP, AMT, HEW, AAB).
- Additional relevant education and/or experience.
