Position Overview

The University of Kansas, Human Resources (HR) is seeking a dedicated HR Partner to support the School of Engineering. This role is pivotal in fostering robust relationships with unit leaders and employees to address HR-related needs, ensuring uniformity in the application of HR policies and practices, and maintaining effective communication with all HR Centers of Excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Principal Liaison: Act as the primary HR contact for unit leaders and employees, ensuring accessibility and visibility within the designated unit(s). Provide expert advice on various HR matters, policies, and programs.
  • Employment Lifecycle Support: Engage in recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes, offering guidance on job descriptions, compensation, and strategic hiring plans. Facilitate orientation activities for new hires and support employees throughout their lifecycle.
  • Employee Relations: Serve as a resource for employees facing workplace issues, guiding supervisors in addressing concerns and utilizing performance management tools effectively.
  • Culture and Engagement: Assess employee engagement levels and design initiatives to enhance retention and morale. Promote engagement programs and monitor their effectiveness.
  • HR Compliance: Ensure adherence to HR policies and local employment laws. Support timely compliance with HR activities and assist with necessary HR forms and data collection.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3 years of HR experience providing counsel in areas such as recruiting, compensation, and employee relations
  • Knowledge of employment laws and HR systems
  • Experience in conflict resolution and maintaining confidentiality
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of strategic HR experience
  • Advanced degree in HR Management or related fields
  • Experience in a Higher Education environment
  • HR Certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities
