Reporting Structure: Directly reports to Classroom Teacher, Department Supervisor, and Building Administrators.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Instructional Aide, you will assist students requiring tailored modifications and accommodations to ensure they receive a free and appropriate public education, as directed by the classroom instructor.

Primary Duties Include:
  • Supervising students both within and outside the classroom environment.
  • Providing constant care and oversight of students.
  • Escorting students as necessary.
  • Preparing and organizing materials for daily lessons.
  • Supporting the teacher with administrative tasks related to the classroom.
  • Delivering instructional support to students under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
  • Monitoring and managing student behavior, collaborating with the teacher on behavior management plans.
  • Assisting students integrated into general education settings and supporting general education teachers.
  • Performing bus duty by helping students during boarding and disembarking.
  • Executing personal care tasks for students as required.
  • Maintaining necessary certifications and training such as CPR and Safety Care.
  • Implementing duties related to specialized dietary needs.
  • Assisting with the positioning and handling of students in specialized adaptive equipment.
  • Applying principles of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to foster a safe and respectful environment.
  • Educating oneself on and executing medical action plans for student safety, with training from the school nurse.
  • Delivering emergency care as needed.
  • Utilizing universal precautions when dealing with bodily fluids.
  • Collaborating effectively with substitute teachers to provide instructional support.
  • Assisting or supervising school-sponsored activities during school hours.
  • Managing laundry of soiled clothing when necessary.
  • Providing assistance during medical incidents such as seizures.
  • Accompanying assigned students as they transition between buildings.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience working with a diverse range of students, particularly those with special needs.
  • Comprehensive understanding of classroom teaching methods and management techniques.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions from the classroom teacher.
  • Patience in interactions with students and staff.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to monitor student safety effectively.
  • Ability to engage with students, staff, and parents positively.
  • Capacity to work independently with students towards their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals under teacher supervision.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Physical ability to assist and lift students as necessary.
  • Acting as a positive role model for students.
Required Education and Experience:
  • A minimum of 60 college credit hours; or an Associate's Degree or higher; or successful completion of the Para Pro Assessment.
  • Preferred experience in an educational environment or prior instructional roles.
Physical Demands:

Must possess sensory skills necessary for effective communication and interaction with colleagues and the public. This includes the ability to see, read, talk, hear, and handle objects. The role may require significant physical activity, including climbing, kneeling, standing, walking, lifting, and repetitive motions.
