  • Collect blood samples from patients in a safe and efficient manner
  • Process blood samples for laboratory testing, including centrifugation, bar coding, and distribution
  • Accession test requests in laboratory information systems (LIS) and reference lab systems
  • Respond promptly to requests to perform phlebotomy within established acceptable time frames
  • Assist in preparing samples for analysis and review request forms for completion and compliance
  • Prepare phlebotomy trays with blood collection items for use
  • Exhibit initiative to increase knowledge through on-the-job training and in-service programs
  • Participate in departmental quality assurance programs
  • Deal with the public in a courteous and professional manner

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Phlebotomy certification desired
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association required
  • Prior hospital experience preferred
