Pharmacy Technician II Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician II to join our team at NYU Langone Health. As a Pharmacy Technician II, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accurate and efficient dispensing of medications to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Under the direction of a registered pharmacist, ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, licensing requirements, and professional standards pertaining to storage and inventory control, dispensing, and distribution of medication.
  • Operate pharmacy technology and medical systems in filling medication orders, delivering patient-specific medications, stocking, assembling, and distributing necessary medications, processing controlled substance requisitions for pharmacist review, and ordering and receiving shipments.
  • Complete annual competency assessments, perform other duties as assigned, check current inventory to determine drug and products to be ordered, place orders with drug wholesalers, materials management, or specialty pharmacy suppliers, receive medication and supplies promptly, and store in appropriate areas accurately document receiving of drugs and supplies, alerting the Pharmacy manager of problems or discrepancies.
  • Prepare and accurately document batched sterile product compounding under the supervision of a Pharmacist, interact with healthcare providers and patients, answer questions and requests, and refer inquiries to a Pharmacist where applicable, answer telephone with courtesy and promptness, triage phone calls, facilitate medication order workflow, troubleshoot medication order inquiries from nursing, participate in the training of newly hired Pharmacy Technicians based on departmental training guidelines, maintain Pharmacy files for patient medication profiles, and pull these charts for the Pharmacists as needed.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with unit dose drug distribution, Hospital Information System, patient information in the medical record system, and print labels when necessary, clean, sterilize, and maintain equipment and work areas according to procedures, rules, and regulations, demonstrate proficiency in aseptic technique and IV room procedures, maintain pharmacy inventory by checking stock, anticipate medication demands based on supply level, and remove outdated medications, demonstrate proficiency with medication procurement process, stocking, and deliveries to units in a timely manner, including pneumatic tube, demonstrate proficiency with applicable Pharmacy technology, demonstrate knowledge of State and Federal laws related to the Medical Centers policy of handling controlled substances, place and expedite orders, verify receipts, receive shipments as needed, and appropriately store and secure medications.
  • Complete Veriform unit inspection assignments and Expiration Tracking Report assignments.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma and 2 years prior experience as a Pharm Tech or have successfully completed the NYU Pharmacy Technician training program.
  • Knowledge and understanding of medical and pharmaceutical terminology, as well as knowledge of procedures and standards for the labeling and dispensing of drugs.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures, excellent organization and communication skills, and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong background in the use of computers and basic Microsoft programs.
  • CPhT Certification from an agency accredited by National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree.
