Job Summary:

The Caregiver Support Specialist will provide direct support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, facilitating their daily living activities, promoting independence, and empowering them to make choices. This role requires a high level of empathy, patience, and understanding, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dining skills, housekeeping skills, social skills, and community access.
  • Provide direct support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, assisting them in training activities and promoting independence.
  • Aid in mobility as needed for individuals using wheelchairs and other assistive devices.
  • Assist in bedroom maintenance and teach housekeeping skills and care of clothing.
  • Assist with meal service, teaching dining skills and promoting social skills and personal dignity during meals.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to company policy.
  • Act as a Primary Person (P2) for one or more individuals, ensuring their wellbeing at all times.
  • Attend and successfully complete in-service training sessions as scheduled.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor to fellow Direct Support Professionals.
  • Complete data collection, observation notes, and daily reports as directed by agency policy and procedure.
  • Assist individuals in transportation as needed.
  • Participate as a member of the Individual Support Team, giving input toward the individual's ISP.
  • Monitor individuals' activities to ensure safety and health care practices are observed, and Universal Precaution Practices are followed.
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned to fulfill the agency philosophy and the goals and objectives of the program site.
Qualifications:
  • A high school education or its equivalent is preferred.
  • Some previous experience in supporting/assisting individuals with disabilities is preferred.
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal background checks as required by federal and/or state laws and any other post-offer, pre-employment screenings as mandated by a governing agency or the company.
