POSITION OVERVIEW: This role is accountable for maintaining the overall sanitation and orderliness of the hotel, encompassing guest rooms and communal spaces. Key responsibilities include ensuring guest satisfaction regarding cleanliness; addressing guest requests; safeguarding room security; managing inventory and cost controls; recruiting, training, and leading a motivated and skilled team. Fosters a welcoming environment of exceptional guest service and product excellence, setting a standard for staff performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Guest Relations
    • Oversees and upholds cleanliness standards in guest accommodations, storage areas, laundry facilities, restrooms, and public spaces.
    • Implements standard protocols for the handling, security, and return of lost and found items.
    • Ensures high-quality services are delivered to meet guest expectations and enhance guest relations.
    • Collaborates with other department leaders to address guest complaints effectively.
  • Financial Oversight
    • Assists the General Manager in formulating the monthly budget for the Housekeeping department and tracks departmental performance against budgetary goals.
    • Procures and receives supplies to maintain sufficient inventory levels weekly.
    • Conducts quarterly inventory audits of linens, supplies, and equipment.
    • Maintains labor standards in line with budget by forecasting and comparing projected versus actual figures.
    • Establishes and upholds cost-control measures for linen inventories, cleaning supplies, and labor expenses through effective forecasting.
  • Operational Leadership
    • Manages back-of-house operations in accordance with established company protocols.
    • Compiles and communicates accurate guest-room status to the Front Office throughout the day and at day's end.
    • Addresses any discrepancies in room status and ensures prompt corrective actions are taken.
    • Coordinates with other department heads to resolve deficiencies and repair issues promptly to minimize out-of-order rooms.
    • Completes special assignments and projects as requested.
    • Participates in the Manager on Duty Program, including covering back-of-house shifts as necessary.
    • Ensures room quality and amenities align with hotel standards and policies.
    • Responsible for executing a quarterly deep cleaning schedule for all rooms in priority order and inspecting completed work.
    • Conducts daily inspections of all guest rooms to verify quality and integrity.
    • Finalizes inspection and closure of each back-of-house employee's work area to confirm task completion before clocking out.
    • If occupancy is low, will undertake assigned tasks as well as deep cleans, guestroom cleaning, or other duties to utilize time effectively.
  • Safety, Security, and Compliance
    • Ensures compliance with established company policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Familiar with local health and safety codes applicable to the hotel.
    • Identifies and rectifies potential safety hazards such as broken doors, fire risks, and wet floors.
    • Understands and adheres to the hotel's key control policies and ensures staff are trained accordingly.
  • Human Resources Management
    • Schedules back-of-house staff based on anticipated occupancy and adjusts daily as needed.
    • Responsible for hiring, termination, performance evaluations, training, and development of all back-of-house personnel.
    • Facilitates departmental communication through effective staff meetings, logbooks, and bulletin boards.
  • Performs additional related and unrelated tasks as assigned by management.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Environmental Conditions
    • 95% Indoor: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature fluctuations.
    • 5% Outdoor: No protection from weather conditions during property inspections.
  • Essential Skills
    • Proficient in budgeting, forecasting, staffing, and scheduling.
    • Ability to supervise/manage and possess knowledge of management responsibilities towards the hotel and employees.
    • Capability to order and receive supplies while maintaining adequate inventory levels.
    • Effective communication skills with other hotel departments.
    • Familiarity with applicable franchise standards and procedures.
  • Educational/Vocational Preparation
    • Associate's Degree in Hotel Management preferred; however, relevant skills and knowledge acquired through on-the-job training and prior experience may substitute for a degree. A minimum of five years of housekeeping experience with three years in a supervisory role is required.
