Job Overview:

Cramer Fish Sciences is a leading fisheries research consulting firm serving the Pacific States and Idaho. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Biological Research Associate to join our team. This role will support juvenile Chinook salmon population assessments on Quartzville Creek, with potential locations in Sweet Home, Lebanon, or Eugene, Oregon.

As a Senior Biological Research Associate, you will lead a team of biological technicians in conducting weekly juvenile Chinook salmon surveys. You will be responsible for making independent decisions while fostering team effectiveness, morale, and safety throughout the field season. Additionally, you will maintain routine communication with supervisors, project leads, and field staff to ensure project requirements are met and personnel needs are effectively addressed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a three-person crew conducting weekly juvenile Chinook salmon surveys.
  • Maintain routine communication with supervisors, project leads, and field staff.
  • Conduct snorkel surveys for juvenile Chinook salmon and operate and carry a Smith-Root LR-24 backpack electrofisher in challenging field conditions.
  • Execute beach seining activities, including pulling heavy nets through uneven and slippery terrain.
  • Oversee the tagging of juvenile Chinook salmon and collect data with accuracy and precision.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Fisheries Science, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in fish identification skills, handling, and biological data collection.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team under challenging conditions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both with the team and external stakeholders.
  • Valid driver's license.

Compensation and Benefits:

The estimated salary for this position is $48,000 - $52,000 per year, depending on experience. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
