Work Environment:
This position is situated within a dynamic and high-volume Palliative Care Department, where you will engage with a diverse patient population facing chronic medical conditions. Your primary focus will be on pediatric patients and their families, assisting them in navigating their healthcare journeys.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advocate for the unique needs of children and their families, offering crucial support during medical situations.
  • Provide age-appropriate explanations to patients and their families regarding healthcare processes, including procedures and coping strategies.
  • Facilitate play opportunities that promote emotional and developmental growth in children.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource on child and adolescent development within the healthcare setting.
  • Document and communicate observations and recommendations related to the psychosocial needs of patients and families.
  • Involve family members in the child life care plan to ensure comprehensive support.
  • Offer emotional support to family members and peers of the patients.
  • Uphold a positive representation of Texas Health Resources.
  • Maintain accountability for the quality of your professional contributions.
  • Act as a clinical role model for nursing staff and other healthcare team members.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Completion of a child life internship is mandatory.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a Child Life role within a healthcare environment.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is required prior to independent patient care.
  • Certification as a Child Life Specialist must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
