Overview of the Role

This role is integral to the core Infrastructure team that oversees the platforms managed by Arrowstreet. The Infrastructure Automation Specialist will play a key role in the design, configuration, deployment, and upkeep of the Infrastructure systems utilized across various teams.

In addition to providing outstanding maintenance and support for Arrowstreet's systems platforms, you will create and implement solutions that enhance the DevOps practice. As an active contributor to the DevOps initiative within the systems Infrastructure team and to internal stakeholders, you will facilitate the transition from product management to service management. Your expertise will be essential in evaluating deployment strategies and making critical operational decisions that affect infrastructure investments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with IT teams to document and execute technical solutions that align with business needs.
  • Deliver Level 3 support to address escalated issues and participate in root cause analysis of production incidents.
  • Develop automated scripts and documentation for recurring tasks using tools such as Powershell, Python, and Ansible.
  • Enhance existing documentation for troubleshooting and resolution processes across all support levels.
  • Design and create reusable components to optimize processes and minimize redundancy.
  • Develop solutions that support Cloud migration, ensuring high availability, performance, monitoring, and observability.
  • Oversee the establishment and configuration of infrastructure in an agile manner, utilizing infrastructure as code and automated configuration management tools to enable service reprovisioning.
  • Assist internal development teams with application/platform integration challenges, including security, permissions, service configuration, and network issues.
  • Create functional tests to ensure systems operate as intended and to bolster Arrowstreet's observability practices.
  • Identify both virtual and physical infrastructure challenges that may affect application functionality and hosting platforms, with a focus on Active Directory, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Engage in operational engineering tasks, including platform upgrades, patching, monitoring, configuration, and troubleshooting, while identifying opportunities for automation.
  • Act as the technical representative for managed services, including Identity services, Windows, Linux, Storage, Virtualization, and Secrets Management.
  • Ensure support and operational efficiency for Arrowstreet's UNIX/Linux-based enterprise solutions.
  • Communicate and troubleshoot issues across various stakeholders, interacting with individuals at multiple technical and management levels on a daily basis.
  • Serve as the escalation engineer for third-level support activities.
  • Participate in periodic off-hours on-call support as part of team rotation.
  • Provide cross-training to other operations engineers as necessary.
  • Be prepared for occasional evening or weekend work as required.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a Hybrid Cloud, Windows, and Linux environment.
  • At least 2 years of experience with automation and/or infrastructure as code tools, such as Ansible or Terraform.
  • 3+ years of experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and/or PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with enterprise Linux distributions, particularly RedHat, and Active Directory integration.
  • Understanding of Certificates and experience with truststore/keystores/OpenSSL.
  • Strong grasp of fundamental technologies, including DNS, load balancing, SSL, TCP/IP, networking, security best practices, performance, high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
  • Experience with containerization technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with enterprise deployments of Microsoft technologies, such as Windows and Active Directory.
  • Experience troubleshooting Kerberos and understanding related issues.
  • Proficiency with authentication troubleshooting tools.
  • Knowledge of Single Sign-On Protocols and related products.
  • Experience with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and certificate lifecycle management.
  • Ability to work independently and develop long-term strategic goals for Infrastructure.
  • Strong communication skills to foster relationships across teams and build trust through demonstrated performance.

Technical Plus

  • Experience with Azure AD and Office 365.
  • AWS experience, particularly with IAM, SSO, and EKS.
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Elasticsearch/Kibana, Artifactory, and Anaconda.
