Spine Neurosurgery Advanced Practice Provider

Northshore is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider to join our Spine Neurosurgery team at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, IL.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Function as an APP within the Spine Neurosurgery Department with job duties including inpatient care, outpatient clinic, and OR
  • Opportunities to become self-sufficient in the neurologic exam, complex spinal diagnoses and interpretation of spinal imaging
  • Round and manage inpatient consults, pre- and post-operative spine neurosurgery patients. Provide comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnoses, and prescribe treatments
  • Assists with pre-admission and explain procedures to patients
  • First- or second-assist in the operating room on spine neurosurgery cases if PA-C or APRN RNFA (RNFA is not currently required for position)
  • Participate in outpatient-based clinic for new consults and post-surgical patients
  • Formulate individualized medical-surgical treatment plans in a shared-decision making model and facilitate discharge care
  • Provide patient education, motivation, respect and empathy to the highest standard
  • Work autonomously and within multi-disciplinary team as a resource and consultant
  • Attend and participate in department meetings and case conferences
  • Identify opportunities for and implement program growth initiatives
  • Positively contribute to safety outcomes, quality initiatives and promote high quality patient experiences
Requirements:
  • Advanced Practice Provider Licensure (PA-C or APN-CNP) in the State of Illinois required; Federal DEA and Illinois Controlled Substance License required
  • Completion of accredited program from either Masters level Physician Assistant Program OR Advanced Practice Nurse Graduate/Doctoral Level Nursing Program
  • BLS/CPR certification and ACLS certification required
  • Prior Advanced Practice Provider experience in an acute care hospital setting preferred but not required
