PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the guidance of the Chair of the Department of Medicine and the Assistant Director of Clinical Development, the Senior Ultrasound Specialist will oversee a team of 3+ sonographers in the Peritinal Diagnostic Ultrasound Center. This role serves as a mid-level healthcare provider, functioning under the delegated authority of the supervising physician.

ROLE AND SCOPE:

The responsibilities of the Senior Ultrasound Specialist extend beyond those of a standard sonographer, focusing on delivering advanced clinical sonography services. These duties are performed in accordance with education, training, and established protocols, policies, and professional standards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Prepare examination rooms and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography procedures following safety and sterilization protocols.
  • Ensure patient safety throughout the sonography process.
  • Review patient medical histories and relevant clinical information.
  • Verify that the sonography examination order is complete and meets medical necessity standards.
  • Assess any contraindications or issues affecting patient preparation and comfort.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, ensuring understanding of procedures.
  • Utilize appropriate positioning tools and ergonomic techniques to enhance patient comfort and data accuracy.
  • Conduct clinical assessments and perform sonography examinations as ordered by the supervising physician.
  • Exercise independent, professional judgment to safely conduct diagnostic sonography procedures.
  • Ensure accurate capture of anatomical and pathological conditions in examination images.
  • Acquire additional images as necessary to support optimal diagnostic outcomes.
  • Document any limitations encountered during the sonography examination.
  • Review and synthesize examination images, preparing preliminary findings for the interpreting physician.
  • Refer specific diagnostic or treatment inquiries to the appropriate healthcare professional as needed.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with privacy regulations and institutional policies.
  • Adhere to professional and ethical standards throughout all procedures.
  • Deliver patient services consistent with the Scope of Practice and Clinical Standards for Diagnostic Sonographers.
  • Perform advanced sonography services or other delegated tasks as authorized by the supervising physician.
  • Provide preliminary reports of sonography examinations for physician review.
  • Assist in the daily operations of the sonography facility.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
  • Registered with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and possesses NT certification.
  • Committed to exceptional customer service, with a keen eye for detail in imaging, and expertise in the OB/GYN field, including two years of experience in Maternal Fetal Medicine and two years in OBGYN imaging.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or equivalent education. Registration with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography is required. Nuchal Translucency certification is mandatory. A minimum of 2 years of experience in Ob/GYN Imaging and 2 years in Maternal Fetal Medicine Imaging is required.

COMPENSATION DISCLOSURE

Expected Salary Range: $125,455 - $138,000
