Position Overview

Shift: 7P - 7A, Weekend Schedule; 24 hours/week

MedStar Health is seeking a Senior Ultrasound Specialist to enhance our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

In this role, you will support the Ultrasound Supervisor in managing daily operations and workflow of the team, while proficiently operating Ultrasound equipment to capture images of specified body areas in accordance with physician directives. This position is expected to hold a Career Ladder designation of Clinical Sonographer I or its equivalent and may serve as a mentor for new personnel. Your expertise will span from straightforward to intricate cases, and you will be responsible for coordinating and delivering educational programs within the unit.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a senior resource and team leader, coordinating the workflow of Clinical Technologists and staff. Review and recommend updates to policies, procedures, and regulations. Focus on fostering leadership and professional development within the team.
  • Evaluate Ultrasound images captured by Clinical Technologists and students to ensure diagnostic quality, providing technical guidance for image enhancement. Maintain quality control over images, verifying patient data and orders. Perform advanced Ultrasound procedures in addition to standard duties. Conduct daily quality assurance checks for RIS (Cerner and PACS) to address errors.
  • Serve as an educational resource and mentor for new hires and students. Engage in quality assurance initiatives and facilitate communication between physicians, technical staff, and management. Collect technical data to establish and uphold best practices. Manage clerical tasks, including scheduling patient examinations and entering data into the Radiology Information System (Cerner) for medical records and billing.
  • Contribute to research, product development, process enhancement, and special projects. Present interesting case reviews during division meetings. Participate in departmental committees and task forces, assisting in unit assessments and audits, including quality assurance and equipment evaluation.
  • Exhibit a thorough understanding of hospital policies and procedures, alongside mastery of necessary skills for routine operations. Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives and participate in setting and implementing unit goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or 1-3 years of formal training in an accredited ultrasound program, meeting the standards for Professional Practices, Clinical Practices, Leadership, and Quality Improvement as per Career Ladder requirements.
  • 3-4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Possession of at least two pertinent registrations.
  • Registered Vascular Technologist certification is preferred.
