Position: Registered Nurse - Inpatient Pediatrics

Experience Required:
  • A minimum of two (2) years of pediatric nursing experience in an Inpatient Acute Care Unit is essential.
  • Completion and maintenance of training in Pediatric Chemotherapy/Biotherapy administration within six months of employment.
  • Registered Nurse must be well-versed in professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to handle nursing assignments of moderate complexity and possess experience in evaluating pediatric patients.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Must have graduated from an Associate or Bachelor of Registered Nursing program accredited by the National League of Nursing (NLN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is necessary.
  • A valid, unrestricted RN license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States is mandatory.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate patients' conditions for potential or life-threatening emergencies.
  • Differentiate between normal and abnormal physical findings based on assessments and vital signs.
  • Develop and implement suitable nursing care plans.
  • Utilize the nursing process to create individualized, age-appropriate nursing care plans, which include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Gather patient medical and psychosocial history along with relevant family history and document accordingly.
  • Execute prescribed physician orders and nursing care while documenting in the patient medical record.
  • Assess patient and family knowledge levels and learning needs regarding prescribed medications, therapies, surgical procedures, disease processes, and prevention, then develop and implement an instructional plan.
  • Administer medications with an understanding of actions and standard dosages of commonly used drugs.
Skills and Procedures:
  • Assist and prepare patients for procedures such as enemas, IV dressing changes, suctioning, blood draws, and EKGs, while obtaining vital signs within the scope of practice.
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms and their implications in various care settings.
  • Provide care for patients with Hickman catheters, including dressing changes, blood draws, and medication administration.
  • Utilize cardiac/apnea monitoring equipment, interpret data, and respond appropriately.
  • Pediatric nurses are expected to recognize significant changes in respiratory patterns and/or life-threatening arrhythmias as indicated on monitors.
  • Demonstrate verifiable experience with infants and children requiring complex medication management, enteral and parenteral nutrition, intravenous fluid management, and continuous monitoring.
