Job Title: Reading Intervention Specialist

Join the Alabama Department of Education in a critical role to support students with reading difficulties. As a Reading Intervention Specialist, you will provide targeted intervention to K-3 students, helping them achieve reading proficiency by the end of third grade.

Responsibilities:
  • Administer universal reading screeners to all students and participate in the Problem-Solving Team (PST) to identify students with reading deficits.
  • Develop Student Reading Improvement Plans (SRIP) and/or Response to Intervention (RtI) plans in collaboration with the PST.
  • Deliver prescriptive, explicit, systematic, structured, multi-sensory language instruction to students requiring dyslexia-specific intervention.
  • Collaborate with classroom reading teachers and local reading specialists to ensure consistency in reading strategies and effective communication with parents.
  • Stay abreast of student reading progress and make recommendations for instruction adjustments as needed.
Requirements:
  • Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, or Special Education Collaborative.
  • Master's degree and Mastery Status in LETRS Early Childhood and/or LETRS K-12.
  • Minimum three years of successful teaching experience, including intensive, targeted intervention using an approved dyslexia-specific intervention program.
Working Environment:

The Reading Intervention Specialist will work in a generally clean and healthy environment, requiring physical and emotional ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move about as required to perform tasks associated with job requirements.
