Position Overview

The W.G. (Bill) Hefner Salisbury Department of Veteran Affairs is on the lookout for an enthusiastic and experienced AP/CP Board-Certified Pathologist to take on the role of Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the leading authority within the service.
  • Engage actively in medical center committees and collaborative teams.
  • Contribute to various initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care delivery.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to exceptional customer service, aligning with performance objectives set by the Medical Center.
  • Comply with all established information security and privacy protocols as mandated by VHA and the Medical Center.
  • Set and assess professional and personal objectives annually, identifying areas for professional development and participating in educational programs, workshops, and self-directed learning.
  • Oversee a team of 10 direct reports.
  • Manage new case responsibilities one day every two weeks.
  • While teaching duties are not mandatory, opportunities for involvement with our academic affiliate are available, including participation in IRB, R & DC, and IACUC.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years of experience as a CLIA Lab Director in a high-complexity laboratory, with demonstrated leadership and supervisory capabilities.
  • Board Certification is required.
  • The position involves direct supervision of ten (10) staff members within a larger laboratory team.
  • Clinical privileges in autopsy, cytology, and surgical pathology are necessary.
  • This role operates within a standard workweek from Monday to Friday, 08:00 am to 04:30 pm, promoting a healthy work-life balance. Pathologists share on-call duties on a rotating schedule, with calls managed via phone.
  • Histology services are available Monday through Friday from 08:00 am to 4:30 pm.
