Job Title: VP of Financial Operations

At American Campus Communities, we are seeking a highly skilled VP of Financial Operations to join our team. This role will be responsible for overseeing the corporate accounting processes, internal controls, and policies.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, with experience in financial operations, mergers and acquisitions, and financial modeling. They will be responsible for providing strategic financial insights to senior leadership, driving efficiencies, and helping to position the company for scalability and growth.

The VP of Financial Operations will work closely with internal departments, including Property Operations, Business Operations, Asset Management, Tax, Financial Planning & Analysis, and Corporate Accounting. They will be responsible for aligning and driving efficiencies across the corporate accounting team and the organization to maximize company performance and pursue achievement of long-term goals, profitability, and growth.

The key responsibilities of this role include overseeing the corporate accounting operations, including accounts payable, general ledger, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. The VP of Financial Operations will also be responsible for developing and maintaining internal controls and reporting policies, supporting senior leadership in strategic staffing of the Corporate Accounting Team, and collaborating closely with the Property Accounting team to ensure efficient execution of multiple annual external audits.

Additionally, the VP of Financial Operations will serve as a key leader and stakeholder for the Corporate Accounting department in organizational priorities and strategic initiatives that will support the company's future growth and ability to efficiently scale. They will understand and ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley, departmental policies and procedures, and maintain and utilize a strong working knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to accounting systems, processes, reporting practices, etc.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance, and/or 10+ years' experience in accounting and/or financial operations. They will also have experience in Microsoft Office Suite, financial modeling and forecasting, advanced Excel and MS Office Suite, business analysis, strategic short- and long-term decision making, creative mindset, innovation, and ideation, explain analytic strategic conceptualization and consulting to business unit leaders and stakeholders, track, prioritize, and drive multiple concurrent projects to success, problem solve and analyze data by assimilating new information, understanding complex topics, and arriving at sound analysis and judgement, remain detail oriented while multi-tasking across multiple priorities and projects to include personal workload and team workload, read, analyze, and interpret business/financial reports, and dental, medical & dependent care flexible spending accounts, short term & long term disability.
