Job Summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a skilled Nurse Educator to join our team. As a Nurse Educator, you will play a vital role in the development and implementation of educational programs for nursing staff. Your expertise will help ensure that our nurses have the knowledge and skills needed to deliver high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement educational programs for nursing staff, including department orientation, mandatory education programs, continuing education, and quality/performance improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with the Nurse Manager/Director to implement unit-based orientation, educational programming, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct formal and informal needs assessments to identify educational and resource-related needs of nursing staff.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs for ancillary staff.
  • Train staff on unit-specific equipment, computer software applications, and other technology.
  • Maintain competence as an expert user for department-specific equipment, computer software applications, and other technology.
  • Participate in the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational and clinical technologies.
  • Evaluate and participate in purchasing teaching materials/new technologies that optimize learning and clinical practice.
  • Ensure timely completion of all mandatory training for staff.
  • Develop and implement continuing education programs for registered nurses using the American Nurses Credentialing Center criteria.
  • Serve as an American Heart Association (AHA) CPR Instructor and provide training for all staff.
  • Collaborate with Nurse Manager/Director in planning, implementing, and evaluating unit-specific education programs and staff competencies.
  • Maintain clinical involvement in assigned clinical area.
  • Promote an environment that fosters creative thinking, new ideas, professional growth, adult learning, open communication, and collaborative relationships.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods to facilitate learning.
  • Provide direct clinical supervision as needed to validate staff competency.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to staff as needed.
  • Participate in unit-based QI/safety initiatives as determined by Nurse Manager/Director.
  • Use QI data to determine staff competency needs and improve patient outcomes.
  • Engage clinical staff in unit-based educational and quality/safety/performance improvement activities.
  • Work with Nurse Manager/Director to develop, maintain, and update policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare providers to develop educational materials and resources for staff and patients.
  • Serve as a clinical and educational resource for staff.
  • Evaluate the ability of staff to assess the learning needs of and teach patients.
  • Function as a role model for professional practice.
  • Demonstrate personal behaviors that reflect the standards of excellence in all interactions.
  • Support staff through the change process.
  • Participate on Department or Hospital committees and/or task forces as assigned by Nurse Manager/Director.
  • Support the departmental and hospital values and goals.
  • Assume responsibility for own professional development.
  • Serve as an educational resource person for educational needs throughout the organization.
  • Develop and maintain educational reports required by the department and accrediting agencies.
  • Act as educational liaison between departments to ensure safe transition of patients between units.
  • Make recommendations to Nurse Manager/Director related to budget planning and cost containment opportunities.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule in order to meet the needs of staff on all shifts, including weekends.
  • Coordinate clinical placements and orientation as assigned.
