Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Shipfitter - Metal Fabricator to join our team at General Dynamics Electric Boat. As a key member of our fabrication team, you will be responsible for the layout, fabrication, assembly, and installation of foundations, structures, bulkheads, frames, components, and deck packages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Layout, fabrication, assembly, and installation of foundations, structures, bulkheads, frames, components, and deck packages
  • Developing a working knowledge of structural weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning and grinding operations
  • Aligning parts in relation to each other using jacks, clips, and wedges through the use of blueprints and templates
  • Tack-welding structural parts as required
  • Ability to read and interpret written policies, procedures, and guidelines as work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures
  • Basic mathematical ability
Requirements
  • 1+ years related experience or relevant training
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Available to work all shifts
  • Ability to work at heights, confined spaces, and extreme temperature conditions as required
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and perform basic layout functions
  • Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in the construction industry or a manufacturing environment
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Metal fabrication experience and military shipbuilding experience
  • Vocational, Technical, and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
  • Military/Navy experience
