The Security Specialist serves as a crucial source of information and assistance for patients, visitors, and hospital personnel. The officer is expected to maintain a professional, supportive, and positive demeanor when interacting with all internal and external stakeholders. Furthermore, the officer is tasked with executing security responsibilities, responding to all security alerts, fires, and emergencies (i.e., Disasters Levels I, II, III, and IV, etc.). The primary duty is to safeguard staff, visitors, patients, and property in accordance with established policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts regular patrols of hospital premises to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Manages and monitors individuals exhibiting aggressive behavior.
  • Investigates security-related incidents and documents findings in an incident report.
  • Maintains a daily log of activities and incidents.
  • Responsible for securing and accessing various buildings on the hospital grounds.
  • Participates in fire and emergency response teams.
  • Enforces hospital parking regulations.
  • Exhibits a compassionate and professional demeanor when interacting with all customers.
  • Demonstrates proficiency as a member of the security alert team, effectively responding to agitation or violent behavior requiring verbal de-escalation and/or physical restraint.
  • Conducts hazardous patient decontamination procedures, identifying risks, selecting appropriate personal protective equipment, setting up decontamination systems, removing contaminated clothing from patients, and managing contaminated waste for proper disposal.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Individuals must meet specific physical requirements for the role, including the ability to sit for up to eight (8) hours per day, stand for up to eight (8) hours per day, and walk for up to eight (8) hours per day. Frequent handling and firm gripping of equipment are required, with occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and walking of objects weighing over 200 pounds with assistance if necessary. Occasional bending, crouching, and reaching above shoulder level are also required. Hearing must be adequate for normal conversation, and vision must be sufficient for general and color vision, as well as depth perception.

EDUCATION:

A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) is required.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Prior experience in security or related fields and customer service is preferred.
