Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, the Patient Care Assistant delivers support in the safe and effective nursing care of patients across various age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations, in accordance with established regulations.

  • Conducts a range of tasks to ensure safe and effective patient care that aligns with the established care plan, unit protocols, and nursing assistant competencies, including but not limited to: monitoring and documenting vital signs, measuring and recording height, weight, food and fluid intake and output, identifying and reporting abnormal signs and symptoms, and maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients.
  • Provides personal care support to assigned patients, which includes bathing, dressing, feeding, transportation, and other personal needs. Responds to patient calls, assists with communication, and runs errands as necessary to ensure quality patient care.
  • Completes relevant sections of the Nursing Admission Assessment record and familiarizes patients with their rooms and unit routines. Accurately records and reports observations, actions, and information regarding assigned patients to maintain timely and precise medical records.
  • Actively participates as a member of the patient care team, including attending and contributing to change of shift reports to stay informed about patient conditions and unit activities.
  • Assists colleagues on the unit as needed to deliver quality and responsive patient care.
  • Engages in unit-based Quality Improvement Programs aimed at enhancing patient care.
  • Capable of performing the role of Patient Safety Attendant (PSA) as directed, ensuring patient safety, taking responsibility for the care environment, and communicating changes in patient condition to the RN/charge RN/designee promptly. Responsibilities include executing patient care activities and safety checks that align with system standards of care. Balances patient safety, self-safety, and environmental safety as equally important for optimal outcomes.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Upon hire: Washington Nursing Assistant Certification License
  • Upon hire: National Provider BLS - American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in an acute care setting preferred, or related work experience.
