Job Summary:

The Psychiatric Aide will serve as a vital member of the treatment team, providing support and care to patients in a mental health setting. This role involves planning, organizing, and conducting therapeutic activities, as well as providing personal care and nursing services to patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Orient patients to the hospital setting, rules, and regulations, and facilitate a smooth transition to the treatment team.
  • Establish rapport with patients and facilitate social interactions with other patients on the unit.
  • Monitor patients' physical and psychological needs, and report findings to the charge nurse.
  • Participate in the formulation of patients' master treatment plans and provide input on therapeutic interventions.
  • Implement training for patients in developing self-help skills, such as toileting, feeding, bathing, dressing, and basic oral hygiene.
  • Conduct daily community meetings with team members to set goals and objectives for the day.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff, and report any known unsafe conditions.
  • Monitor contraband materials and enforce unit rules and regulations.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of crisis intervention approaches and assist in the evaluation of patients' conditions and progress.
  • Assist in emergency procedures, such as fire drills, seclusion, and restraints.
Requirements:
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one year of work experience in a mental health facility or unit.
  • Minimum one year of mental health work experience in an acute care setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One year of work experience in a mental health facility or unit, with experience in therapeutic activities and behavioral procedures.
