About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Surgical Assistant to join our team at Bon Secours Mercy Health. As a Surgical Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
  • Assist surgeons and other medical staff during procedures, providing exposure, retraction, and other necessary support.
  • Implement plans for surgical interventions, adjusting as needed to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure seamless care.
  • Participate in ongoing education and competency verification opportunities to stay up-to-date on the latest techniques and technologies.
Requirements
  • Certified in one of the following: Certified Surgical Assistant, The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or Certified Surgical First Assistant - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
  • Registered with the Virginia Board of Medicine as a Surgical Assistant (if employed in Virginia).
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification preferred upon hire, must obtain from an approved source prior to direct patient care.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification preferred upon hire, must obtain within 90 days of start from an approved source.
  • 2 years' experience in an Operating Room required, experience in cardiovascular and thoracic operating room preferred.
