Agricultural Systems Technician Job Description

This is a full-time position with a competitive wage, including a benefit package with health insurance, dental, life, and disability insurance, 401(k) with match, paid personal time off, paid holidays, and a sign-on bonus. The Agricultural Systems Technician will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of various mechanical, electrical, and conveying systems/types of industrial equipment for a poultry production plant. The technician will perform preventative and predictive maintenance, periodic testing, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs. The position supports the daily achievement of production goals through ensuring the proper functionality of our machines.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Repair and perform basic maintenance on agriculture/industrial machinery using manufacturer recommendations and company SOPs to ensure equipment is performing safely and to required specifications.
  2. Identify root cause of basic mechanical and electrical issues and perform basic repairs, including welding, fabricating parts, basic plumbing, or replacing defective components; notify appropriate personnel if further attention is required.
  3. Perform general maintenance and routine checks on housing systems, including ventilation, water, feed, egg, and manure equipment.
  4. Troubleshoot, repair, and track different types of conveyor belts.
  5. Diagnose and conduct overall conveyor maintenance on schedule, as required.
  6. Troubleshoot and replace or repair drive chains, gears, belts, pulleys, shafts, rollers, electric motors, and gear boxes.
  7. Responsible for maintaining tools, keeping them clean and in good working condition. Keep work area organized, clean, and free to move in.
  8. Occasional use of ALL-TERRAIN forklift and standard man-lift equipment.
  9. Work in a safe manner to protect themselves and co-workers.
  10. Identify unsafe conditions and correct them. Report any safety and quality issues to management.
  11. Work around animals in confined areas.
  12. When working in poultry houses, follow all compliance, food safety, and biosecurity rules, policies, and procedures. Report any violations to a supervisor.
  13. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  1. High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  2. Additional trade or technical school education for maintenance, mechanical, welding, or electrical is a plus.
  3. Prefer 2+ years of experience in industrial, commercial, or facility systems maintenance.
  4. Maintenance experience in the poultry or agriculture industry is preferred.
  5. Basic electrical knowledge and previous use of basic electrical testing devices.
  6. Reading and comprehension skills necessary to read, understand, and follow SOPs and other written instructions or work details.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers and management.
  8. Sound work ethic, honesty, team-oriented, and moral character.
  9. Attention to detail and ability to follow work assignments.
  10. Experience with safety/equipment such as LOTO, harnesses, lanyards, hoists, and PPE is a plus.
  11. Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holiday hours as required based on production demand.
  12. Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull 75+lbs.
  13. Ability to work in various climate conditions, including extreme heat and cold environments. Walking, climbing (ladders and stairs), standing, and sitting for long periods of time, heights up to 75', and able to work in confined spaces.
