Overview

This role is situated within the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), specifically in the Office of Negotiations and Restructuring (ONR), Plan Compliance Department (PCD), and the Multi-Employer Program Division (MEPD).

Eligibility
  • Recent Graduates:

    Individuals who have completed their education from an accredited institution or certificate program within the last two years, or within six years for veterans.
  • The General Public:

    U.S. Citizens, Nationals, or individuals who owe allegiance to the United States.
  • Students:

    Current students enrolled in accredited educational institutions from high school through graduate level, including internships and other student programs.
Agency Clarification

Individuals who graduated from an accredited educational institution or certificate program within the last two years or six years for veterans who were unable to apply during the two-year eligibility period due to military service obligations are encouraged to apply. Unofficial transcripts may be submitted at the time of application to ensure timely processing. Official transcripts will be requested upon a formal offer.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will:

1. Conduct audits of multiemployer pension plans as directed, focusing on financial data such as general ledgers, bank statements, and balance sheets to assess cash availability and reconcile plan asset and participant accounts.

2. Support senior auditors in reviewing computations for plan benefits, ensuring compliance with plan provisions and PBGC guaranteed levels.

3. Assist in auditing insolvent multiemployer pension plans, examining participant and financial data, and performing tests to validate funding status and benefit payments.

4. Gather financial data necessary to ascertain the amount and frequency of financial assistance payments in accordance with ERISA regulations.

Qualifications

Applicants may qualify based on education, specialized experience, or a combination of both.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent in the private sector, involving the review and analysis of audit or accounting data for accuracy or compliance with standards. Examples include: general ledgers, bank statements, and audit documentation.

Experience includes both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer roles through National Service programs. Your resume must clearly detail relevant experience; if qualifying through education, transcripts will be required.

OR

Superior Academic Achievement: A qualifying degree that meets the criteria for eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision through one of the following methods:

* 3.0 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent based on the final two years of study.

* 3.5 or higher GPA in major field courses during the final two years of study.

* Upper third ranking in graduating class (proof required).

* Membership in a recognized National Scholastic Honor Society (proof required).

Eligibility for the Recent Graduates Program:

Individuals who completed all requirements for a degree from a qualifying institution within the last two years are eligible to apply.

Education Requirements:

Applicants must possess a degree in accounting or a related field with at least 24 semester hours in accounting.

OR

A combination of education and experience totaling four years in accounting or related fields, including substantial coursework in accounting or auditing.
