Position Overview
The Laboratory Science Specialist is responsible for executing clinical laboratory procedures, assessments, and various tests in accordance with established protocols. This role involves maintaining laboratory equipment and documentation, as well as conducting quality assurance activities that necessitate independent judgment and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts analyses of biological samples following established policies and procedures, utilizing specialized instruments, equipment, reagents, and methodologies.
- Evaluates and communicates results while ensuring accurate documentation of actions taken; promptly informs supervisors of any issues or critical findings.
- Ensures equipment remains in optimal working condition through routine preventive maintenance, including start-up and shut-down procedures for major instruments; maintains thorough documentation of these activities.
- Implements and records Quality Control Procedures and adheres to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) manual; follows laboratory policies when test systems deviate from established performance standards; maintains a clean work environment and complies with safety and infection control protocols.
- Treats proficiency test samples with the same diligence as patient specimens; performs specialized testing procedures as directed.
- Identifies, rectifies, and reports issues to management that may negatively impact test performance or result reporting.
- Documents corrective actions taken when test systems fall outside of the laboratory's established performance criteria.
- Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions as necessary to ensure proper functioning.
- Maintains accurate documentation of all actions taken.

- Bachelor's Degree is required.
- A current license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in New York State is mandatory, along with any specialized certifications as necessary.

The salary range for this position is $50.15-$61.07/hour. This range represents a good faith estimate of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful candidate at the time of this job advertisement and is subject to change. When determining a team member's base salary, various factors may be considered, including location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity.
