Job Summary

Virginia Community Colleges is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Peer Tutor to provide individualized academic support to students in English language and literature courses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one tutoring in English language and literature to students of varying skill levels.
  • Develop and implement effective study and learning strategies to promote independent learning and academic success.
  • Collaborate with Academic Skills Advisors to plan and deliver academic support services.
  • Refer students to relevant campus resources as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and participate in professional development opportunities.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in the subject area with a strong academic record (minimum 'B' average).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to work with diverse student populations.
  • Flexibility to adjust tutoring methods to meet various learning styles.
  • Proficiency in English language and literature, from developmental to advanced courses.
Additional Considerations
  • Operation of a state vehicle may be required.
  • No supervisory responsibilities.
  • No required travel.
